Waiting List for "Lightning Protection"

Lightning protection in the marine environment presents special challenges. As the ground attachment path for a five-mile long spark carrying tens of kilo-amperes, the protection system has the task of safely diverting this current around crew, sensitive electronics, and hull components. However, even when the current is flowing in the water, voltage differences can cause side-flashes, both inside the boat and between the boat and the water. These present a shock hazard to the crew, produce over-voltage in electronics systems, and can blast holes through the hull. Management of the side-flash problem is a fundamental issue in the design of an effective marine lightning protection system.  New concepts to address these problems are included in a new standard, NFPA 780-2008, that is now available from the NFPA website . The course will be based on this NFPA standard and will include topics such as air terminal locations, lightning conductor layout, connections, and grounding.  The course will concentrate on design and installation techniques with reference to findings from damage investigations.

Note: REGISTRATION FEES FOR THIS COURSE ARE YET TO BE DETERMINED. WHILE IT IS FREE FOR YOU TO PRE-REGISTER, THE ACTUAL COURSE WILL NOT BE FREE!
